The rainy season is almost over!
I apologize for starting off with such a hot comment, but this summer is going to be long!
So, I'm heading to Miura this weekend.
I hope you all enjoy the summer while cooling off in your favorite spots.
I'll be taking my Mayumasa backpack with me to the beach,
but today I'd like to talk about the "patent" I obtained with that backpack.
What is a patent, anyway?
"A system in which a government agency (the Japan Patent Office) grants the exclusive use of a useful invention that meets certain conditions."
In other words,
"A scope of an idea that the government has authorized for exclusive use by only the inventor."
I think the reasons for obtaining a patent vary from person to person.
However, it's not as simple as just applying and getting it.
It takes money and effort, and there are considerable hurdles to obtaining a patent.
(Most applications are rejected.)
However, I'm sure that many inventors
have the common thought of "I want to make this invention useful to society,"
and have gone through many hardships before obtaining their patent.
I am one of them.
When the test backpack was completed, I went around asking all my acquaintances for their reactions.
"You can see inside! It's so cool!"
"Yeah, the mouth opens like it's alive!"
This fun and wonderful invention would be convenient for anyone,
and I imagined how much more enjoyable life would be with this backpack...
And so I decided to apply for a patent, with the goal of completing this function, which was still "incomplete" at the time, and commercializing it.
It was a long journey from there...
